Find the relayhost directive. Set that to your ISP's outgoing SMTP server. Postfix will then send all outgoing mail through your ISP, instead of trying to deliver it directly. However, since Comcast is far from a *normal* ISP... 1. You will need to have Postfix send out on port 587. Edit /etc/postfix/main.cf: relayhost = [smtp.comcast.net]:587 2. You will need to use SMTP Authentication to authenticate with Comcast's SMTP server. http://freelock.com/kb/Postfix_relayhost Hope this helps. Thanks, -Lucas

Comcast and Postfix

Hi all, I've been a long time lurker and need a shove in the right direction. I've been getting my email on Ubuntu box for a while, Fetch gets the mail and postfix sends it out, Recently Comcast has been forcing me to use the 587 port for sending mail. and I'm at a loss on how to get it to work in postfix. I can't even send mail to a 3rd part mailhost, so they have locked me out of port 25. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it and can point me in the correct direction, this has been driving me crazy. Thanks!! Chuck Keeter

Intel D845EBT mobo RAM issues
by Jon Pruente 23 Feb '08

23 Feb '08

Any have experience upgrading mobos with i845 chipsets? I've got a 2002 vintage D845EBT mobo based system that is in desperate need of RAM. They put Vista on it with only the original 512MB RAM and it and suddenly it got dog slow. We all know why. So, I put a 1GB Buffalo Select DIMM in for 1.5GB RAM. It sped up very well, but it started having random crashes. I diagnosed it to a problem with the 1GB module, though I couldn't replicate the RAM errors with memtest86+ in a spare system, only the original one. Today I took the module back to MicroCenter to do a defective part swap. Got the new 1GB DIMM in the system and it won't even pass POST, just gives beep codes. Before I get more time wasted on this and more gas to MC and back, etc., does anyone know if the Intel made i845 boards have been having issues with 1GB DIMMs? I've had 512MB DIMMs in it and it seemed ok, and the original is a 512MB anyway. I think I can let them live with 1GB (as 2x512) under Vista, but more is always better. From my research so far, Intel certified 512MB DIMMs and claims the 1GB *might* work... I think I'm finding otherwise. I'll have to give this new DIMM a run in the spare system and hope it's just a fluke of two bad DIMMs in a row. Jon.

Neat concept but the locking restrictions seem a GPL violation. In spirit at least?

Sounds like a candidate for impact testing, I tested mine and found motors, a bunch of nifty gears, and some parts to experiment with. Actually the printer was dying anyway, so when it croaked, I salvaged the motors for a school project, but it was impact tested in the approved "Office Space," method. > > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 4 > Date: Sat, 16 Feb 2008 19:51:54 -0600 > From: Douglas Bronson <doug(a)bronson-tate.com> > Subject: Re: Why I avoid HP printers > To: kclug(a)kclug.org > Message-ID: <47B7933A.2090204(a)bronson-tate.com> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed > > It's not only HP! > We bought a Lexmark all in one, just to use as a stand alone fax. > Original cartridges work great. Why I avoid HP printers
by Earle Beason 17 Feb '08

Leo Mauler In response, I got sick of buying a printer cartridge every 6 months to a year because HP built in a circuit to EXPIRE the ink. Will cheep and free are my modes of operandi, spending 120$ a year for printer cartridges just so I can have the luxury of printing is stupid. If the wife hasn't thrown them out , I will give you two cartridges from the old HP and allow you to dissect them. research can be found http://www.theinquirer.net/en/inquirer/news/2003/04/29/hp-inkjet-cartridges… http://land.netonecom.net/tlp/ref/letters/hpPrinters.php http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4293427.stm http://constitutionalcode.blogspot.com/2005/02/cartridge-expiration-date-wo… http://www.mrtweak.com/laptop-and-desktop-hardware/stop-expiration-of-hp-in… http://www.engadget.com/2005/02/23/hp-hit-with-lawsuit-for-dead-ink-cartrid… http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20050222/1220232.shtml http://larko.wordpress.com/2008/01/13/your-printer-is-expired/ http://www.technewsworld.com/story/40826.html?welcome=1203205169 http://www.lawyersandsettlements.com/articles/00395/ink-jet-printers.html http://yro.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=05/02/22/2224223
