Ah.  I believe that basically any daemon Bernstein (sp?) writes 
requires daemontools.  He apparently believes that there are
shortcomings in the normal init process, though I haven't seen 
him spell out the problems he sees.

Note that doing this would deprive you of the centralized status-getting and
start and stop process that daemontools provides (if I understand "respawn"
correctly).  It certainly would be simpler, however, especially since you 
have to edit your inittab either way.
