  Having precompiled (but cryptographically signed) binaries at various
sites is a Good Thing.  It gives people options, and helps to combat the FUD
line "In order to use Linux you HAVE TO recompile everything."

  No, Elmer, you don't HAVE TO.  If you have reasonably-normal hardware, you
can use a binary compiled by someone else. But you CAN compile from source
if you WANT TO, or have the need or desire to use modified source or
optimize for your hardware.  Which is something you CAN'T do with....
