KDE / Gnome

One is really no better than the other, but different.  The main thing to
remember is that you can use what you prefer when you want to.  If you have
an app that only works under Gnome (this getting to be a non-problem), then
you 'startx gnome' or select it from kdm or xdm.   You can have both.
