WINE & RH9

I've never worked with WINE before, but was posed a query about how to
make it work in RH9. I tried doing an install, and followed the
directions (to the best of my ability) without having the time to read
EVERYTHING...and am having no luck making it work.

I tried running it from a GUI terminal, and got display errors (like
unable to connect to display 0.0 or something) so I killed off X and
went to a text login...still got an error "x11drv:Can't open display:".
Does anybody have experience with WINE that might be able to clue me
in? I'm finding that it takes hours of searching and reading to try and
get a clue how to do stuff, and a lot if it is written to someone with
much more programming (or some kind!) experience than I have. There
seems to be a lot of assumptions made by the folks writing the "guides"
that leave us trying to move from MS out in the cold. I realize there's
a lot of time investment required to make the shift, but sometimes it
just seems unrealistic. 

Ok, I'll stop whining now. Anybody able to help?
