If you are comfortable w/ Red Hat go with Fedora Core. It is current. You could also install RH 9
and set up Yum or Apt4rpm to connect to one of the repositories that have sprung up to continue
supporting RH9.

I was also a little concerned because RedHat 9 is no longer supported by
RedHat, right? Hence I was thinking I should move to a different
distrobution.
