crossover plugin

Yes, as always when I make a complaint about lack of documentation in a
post, I find it IMMEDIATELY after hitting the send button...
Xover plugin isn't a plugin at all; it's a plugin installer, manager and
enabler. You tell the manager part of it what you want to use and it goes
out, gets it, installs it, and uses just enough of WINE to get it to
decode your images, videos, etc. for you.
HOWEVER, I mostly wanted to use quicktime, and it tries to install
QT6 for me, but in the middle it says "There's a newer installer; let's
use it instead!", brings up the new installer, and walks me through the
installation, but nothing really gets installed. There's a request for
which drive-and-path-to-it to install it on, and I'd bet that's where
things are getting tangled up, 'cause it expects the path to start w/ C:.
At any rate, QT does not show in the "installed software" panel of the
controller afterward, and Apple's trailers still won't play (where this
whole thing started.)

Now what? Try to force QT6 instead? Prolly wouldn't help this
particular need, 'cause all the trailers require the latest and greatest,
I imagine... Wait for the XC folx to untangle the new codec? How's their
project at keeping up with Mr. Sorensen, et al? Guess I'll find out...

thx1138, BK, for your help!
