Imagine for a moment a free distribution with a searchable directory tree
with different applications neatly organized. A concise listing. The
cream of the crop. With a brief description of each, including a html
link to the webpage, and of course, an easy install. Sound too good to be
true? That's gentoo. Granted, the command line is a different paradigm
than the windowed world and it does take a little english to extract the
information. But, I don't mind typing in 'ls' and the search command with
'emerge -s' to extract information from the listings.

I would estimate a year before we have an "explorer" version of gentoo's
portage, where we can browse packages. Complete with different search
filters. Click to install, of course.
