Well, after the last posts about the max amount of time to compile, I 
decided to do it.  On an AMD K-6 500Mhz, it took ~24 hours.  That was 
*everything*.  There may have been some optimization tricks, but I 
didn't know/use any.  It does seem to be quite a bit faster and sound 
setup was a breeze, but there is a show stopper with knotify.  Every 10 
seconds or so, I get a SIGSEGV thrown by knotify displayed in a dialog 
window.  Not much info beyond that and I haven't spent much time 
researching this.  I'm just asking a quick question if anyone knows.  If 
not, I'll post my findings.

Here's what I guess is a stack trace from teh dialog window.  I see some 
QT references.  I should note that I compiled QT before the KDE packages 
according to the instructions.:
