Internet Access

Hello:

I would like to know how in the world can I get a
Linux box access the internet?

What file I need to configure to do this?

If anyone can please guide to a How-To or just give me
some ideas. 
I have a cable connection at home (RoadRunner) and I
can't access the internet.

At work there's a Win NT LAN...

At both locations I am behind a router. Please help.
Your assistance will be appeciated.
