Linux vs Windows and why win is winning!

Hi All,

I've been following this thread with much interest,
being a Linux newbie. Strangely, there has been a
similar thread at the same time on the open developer
ML for the new Amiga Digital Environment over whether
to use the MicroBorg cut/copy/paste keyboard
shortcuts, or use something 'that either makes better
sense, or doesn't kowtow in the direction of Redmond'
VS how many customers would we lose by not doing it
Bill's way.

Sometimes I've had to look at the message header to
remember which list a message was from.

As to my background, I've had some mainframe
programing classes..."long ago, in a galaxy far
away...", I learned the ends and outs of the C64 with
my kids. I've learned more about DOS & Windblows than
I care to know at work. And I know the CLI & GUI based
Classic Amiga operating system inside and out.

None of this prepared me to tackle Linux. I got my
turnkey system with Red Hat 6.2 and basically sat
there going DuhOhhh! My one reference book turned out
to be little real help. Armed with about 50 sheets of
printed website, it only took me a week to get Road
Runner up and running. I still wouldn't be able to
print and do a few other things without the help I've
received at the meetings.

I'm still largely at sea over Linux. I've got some of
the principles down, but the devil surely is in the
details.

Since this is the hottest week of the year, nobody
should notice a few flames, so here goes. What is the
most user friendly distribution for total newbies?

If there is a difference, what is the most Winblows
like setup after a standard install?

Which distro has the best help features that are easy
to access? Remember that many Mac users and people who
started using computers with Win95 may not even know a
Shell exists. I've typed man XXXX a few times and then
needed a dictionary, thesisaursis, and a ball of twine
to understand the explaination.

If someone can come up with a help system that is easy
to use, I'll be happy to test it.

                   Best,

                         Bob Kennedy

=====
Best,

		Bob Kennedy
