Thanks for all the help. I got my system up and running this morning. I was using a boot disk for another system, but I couldn't get it to work, even though I was typing 'linux root=/dev/hdb1' at the boot prompt. Through many trials and using the tomsrtbt disk, I finally remembered that my root was /dev/hdb7! I tried that and it worked just fine. Gene
