Camera trials . . .

Remember that nifty Axis 2100 from long ago . . . I've been battling tons
of problems with it. Yes, it's been that long and I had given up and was
working on putting a Linux or Windows box in just to do picture captures
when I decided to go head to head with the camera server again. This time
I went through tech support and after ?? emails back and forth we've
determined that when I sent the unit to them to fix a flash update
(snafu'ed in the middle of transferring), that they sent it back with a
different MAC address. Lovely eh? I couldn't arp it because it didn't
have the right address. I had no luck doing a null modem connection to it
either . . . but that may have been my Win95/laptop. Anyway, after
getting a rather obscure bit of information on the default IP address for
the unit, I was able to get in and determine it's valid MAC address, plus
get it back up and running. Now I'm going to attempt to get it hooked up
and cooking with the modem connection again. That's where the unit always
shoots craps . . . doing dial-ups. TCP/IP works like a charm . . . but
the modem usually dies . . . and unfortunately it seems to do it when I get
in front of my customer to plug it in. Ugh.

Isn't this sh*t wonderful?
