error during D3 Pick install...

This has all the earmarks of a hardware error. Is there a scan disk utility
for Linux; one that checks the physical sectors? Is it always the same inode
and block? What does your drive map look like? Just curious, what is D3
Pick?  What is the inode for /sbin/shutdown? I'd run fsck on that drive like
yesterday.
