You went way out of your way, buddy. All that's happening is this: Their
DHCP server has an IP addressed assigned to a computer with a certain
MAC address connected to the cable modem with your serial number. This
used to happen to me: If I was on one computer and it crashed, because
it didn't go through the official DHCP process of releasing the IP
address, the cable modem refused to let any other MAC hardware address
get on until one of two things happened: I booted in to the machine that
crashed and shutdown properly or the DHCP lease on the address expired
after two days (IIRC).
