In my own defense, I believe that Gentoo is the way to go. It has a
steep installation learning curve but you come out a semi-guru on the
other side. I figure, use that 'I am so sick of Windows' energy actually
learning guru stuff intead of how to point-and-click your way around one
of the desktop distros. Once Gentoo is installed, it's just as easy to
maintain as the next distro.

If anyone can glean anything from this short thread, it's this: If you
aren't happy with your first distro choice, try another because clearly
not every distro works for every person.

I /dispise/ RedHad, Mandrake, and SUSE but I still have respect for them
and their place in the Linux distro landscape (which I would say is most
beneficial to experimenters, reviewers, the curious and cautious system
administrators.)
