Gentoo? Dude! He's wanting to learn about linux, like as a beginner to
linux, not a freaking guru. He said he's a windows person, not a unix
sysadmin. Jason, you need to get a copy of Mandrake 9.1, Red Hat 9.0,
or Suse 8.1 (8.2 may be out?). I recommend Mandrake, as that is what I
use and I think it is the best desktop disto, but they each have their
pros and cons. Since you can get them all for free, you can try them
all out, and see what works best for you. They all have excellent
installers and beautiful desktops. I recommend that you start with KDE
for your desktop, as it will seem the most familiar to you coming from
windoze.

The main thing you will need to do is read your brains out. You have a
large learning curve ahead of you, but I think you will find it well
worth the effort.

As you get more familiar with linux, you might even move on to, yes,
dare I say it, Gentoo. ;-)

Good luck, and all the help you need is right here on this list.

Peace,
Jim Herrmann
