Position Overview:
This is a technical IT engineering position performing systems
administration tasks including design, implementation, & systems management
and operations. This position will work both independently and as a team
member of the Enterprise Systems group. Members of this team will work
daily with staff across a number of IT disciplines including Data Center
Operations, Enterprise Platforms, and many other IT groups in the support
of the overall mission of KU IT. This position will assist project teams
with technical deployment, design, and planning in the acquisition and
implementation of mid to large scale enterprise IT projects. The individual
holding this position will:

Job Duties:
60% - Technical administration of Linux/UNIX based Operating Systems and
major subsystems:
 a. Planning and installation of version/release, upgrades/security patches.
 b. Problem resolution and complex troubleshooting.
 c. Proactive and emergency maintenance.
 d. Design and implementation of project related IT systems
 e. Configuration, planning, and documentation.
 f. Participate in the development of standards, architecture, and design
theory for the management and operation of large scale Linux systems.
 30% - Technical consultant for Third Party products and “add ons” in the
Linux/UNIX environment:
 a. Installation of version/release, upgrades/security patches.
 b. Problem resolution.
 c. Proactive and emergency maintenance.
 d. Configuration and documentation.
 10% - Other:
 a. Will be part of the on-call rotation.
 b. Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or computer related field, or
three years of combined education and experience.
 2. Two years of supporting Linux/UNIX operating systems and major
subsystems in a medium/large environment (50+ systems Linux/UNIX systems).
 3. One year of experience with automated patch systems.
 4. One year of experience with automated systems deployment.
 5. One year of experience with running Linux/UNIX in a virtualized
environment.
 6. Experience working in a team environment 2 or more people.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. One year of experience with Red Hat Linux Satellite Server.
 2. One year of experience with Enterprise level SAN Storage >100TB in size.
 3. One year of experience managing centralized authentication systems in a
Linux/UNIX environment.
 4. One year of experience authenticating Linux/Unix systems against an
Active Directory environment.
 5. One year of experience with running Linux/UNIX under VMWare ESX.
 6. One year of experience with administrating the monitoring of Linux/UNIX
servers.
 7. One year of experience of managing remote access to Linux/UNIX servers
and applications.
 8. One year of experience in Linux/UNIX scripting in Perl or shell script.
 9. Experience in process improvement and/or project management.

Salary Range: Salary is commensurate with experience & education

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule

Pay: This is a Non-Exempt (Hourly), Unclassified Professional Staff (UPS)
position.

The salary is commensurate with experience & education

Benefits:  If this position will be appointed at 50% or more it is
benefits-eligible. Benefits-eligible employees are eligible for group
health insurance coverage as well as other benefit programs, retirement and
other insurance programs. Semi-monthly employee health insurance premiums

Work Schedule: This position is Monday-Friday, 8 a.m to 5 p.m.
