I don't disagree with your point, but I thought is was an excellent way to present the material to kids and adults alike. After all, dumbing it down for the masses can't hurt a beginner.  Isn't that what google chrome did?

Frankly, this sort of stuff scares me for its capacity to be
completely wrong. Peer review is a critical component, even for
HOWTOs. Thats why I prefer to place HOWTOs on the wiki, to lower the
barrier to review and suggested change.
