USB sound

I'm working on a device and might need to attach an external sound
card for testing. If I don't really care about audiophile quality,
what's the easiest (and cheapest) USB sound card for a moderately
current 2.6 kernel? It'd be nice if it's something available off the
shelf at MicroCenter.
