Security Video

A client of mine wants to post video clips from his home system to his 
colocated web host.  Right now he's thinking of taking ten minute clips and 
uploading them with a cron job, but it seems to me there are better ways.  
Base system hosting the camera is an OS-X Mac, server is Linux.

Suggestions or pointers to good resources for this kind of thing (web-based 
video security) would be appreciated.
