 Also look into mulinux.   It was small before either of those.  Now on
http://mulinux.dotsrc.org/ version 14r0.   Not under active development,
but will work on a 386.  There is also Tom's rootboot and many others.

The current uClibc based Bering release is an excellent way to turn most

spare PC into a router/stateful-firewall/vpn-gateway/whatever.
