Gentoo Linux and webcams

I've got a Gentoo Linux server at home.  It isn't
running XWindows but it is running Apache 2. 
Currently I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 webcam
setup on it running the PWC drivers and palantar
software to serve up the cam pages.

I'm not happy with the quality of the picture.  The
colors are off, the picture is washed out and faded,
and the resolution is horrible.

Is anyone else currently running a webcam?  Does
anyone have suggestions on something better or someway
to improve picture quality?
