If you just want to see this, you can use one of the Knoppix boot options to launch a Gnome 
desktop.  At least you can on the Knoppix up to 3.1 or 3.2.  I think you need to put "knoppix 
desktop=gnome" at the boot prompt.  Version 3.3 removed Gnome in favor of more apps.  The 3.4c't 
version, which was released in the German tech magazine, C't, included both a 2.4 kernel as default 
and a 2.6 kernel for testing and the return of Gnome.  Me, I could care less, because I don't 
generally like Gnome, but I guess some people complained.  I would prefer all KDE w/ the gtk/gnome 
libs installed to allow gtk-based programs to work.

All that just because I wanted to see Gnome on the Knoppix desktop
instead of KDE (Knoppix) and Flux (STD).   :-)
