What I would suggest you do then is to work with everythng based on 
www.mfreeland.net/<whatever>.  In order to accomodate 
<whatever>.mfreeland.net, you would ideally be running an authoratative DNS 
server (pair) for mfreeland.net, and have all the official entries.  You 
would then make specific entries for each <whatever> host.
