Wait. The cost is too high vs. returns. The technology is viable but
unless you are running a massive database or something similar you wont
see enough benefit. Interestingly, the Athlon 64 chips are a step up on
32-bit software, though. The speed increase is supposedly noticeable.
The only thing you need this much speed for these days, though, is games
and compiling software. If I can ever get compiling KDE down to under an
hour, I'll be a happy man. :)
I also think that about the time that such hardware is widely available,
we'll start to see OSS vendors shift from binary distributions in favor
of compile-on-arrival installers that allow the owner to specify the
features/supports that are compiled in.
