I think the limitations on hard drive sizes are somewhat dependent on
the Operating System you are choosing to run.  As long as the
motherboard actually recognizes the disk as present, Linux will usually
address the whole thing just fine.  Windows may be a different story.
It's been a while since I've tried big drives in old boxes for a Windows
install.  I recall installing a 6G drive in a 486 for file serving a few
years back.  It worked like a champ running Redhat 5.2.  I realize this
doesn't answer the whole question, but I hope it helps.
