An act of God (who I don't subscribe to).

I both work at and attend UMKC. While IBM has been making significant
inroads in to the IT department in the UM System (mostly because the
university is fed-up with Dell), IBM isn't exactly pushing Linux per se.

Allow me to also say that with the exception of Justin Maylyn (sp?), the
IT department at this university is the most incompetent bunch of
beaurocraticlly encumber ninnies I've ever had the displeasure of being
at the mercy of. Most of them amount to little more than a glorified
MCSE and wouldn't know how to change directories at a console if their
lives depended on it.

I've been working and going to school here for over a year. I am
studying computer science (shouldn't this be were you would see more
linux?) and UMKC's *nix support/teaching amounts to little more that the
musings of a few interested faculty at the 400's level.

This university bought the Microsoft FUD: hook, line and sinker. Now
they're paying for it dearly with consistent network failures and
systemic service delivery problems.
