Ben:
Looks like I sent this to Bill accidentally. Sorry Bill.
Hey, I'm the same boat. Just finishing my CS degree, moving to KC in a few
months for a new job. I was debating doing an MBA, or a CS masters. I've
been asking all sorts of people, and this is what I'm gathering.
A straight business degree with an MBA chaser doesn't seem to be the best
idea. I guess the market for those types is wicked flooded.
A CS degree with a CS masters seems to be turning people off too. Too
one-sided.
People seem to be find of the idea of a BS CS and then an MBA pretty
appealing. Management in the making.
Really, I'm seeing that people with MBA's are a dime a dozen. But, most of
them also have communications, business, english, finance, poly sci, or econ
degrees. People seem to be more stoked about hard sciences coupled with
MBA's. I was thinking of doing an MBA, and then some sort of CS PhD.
In one interview, for a civilian job in the navy, they were offering 55 for
a bachelors, and 65 or 70 for a masters. So, it would have paid off then
for sure.
In my case, work will pay for books and tuition, so I figure, I can't lose
with an MBA. (And the thought of 2 more years of CS makes my head spin.)
Do you have any schools picked out? I'm coming from utah, and don't konw
much about the schools there. I was looking at Baker, KU, UMKC.
Anyway, keep in touch and we can share up some info.
Keep on keepin on,
Matt
