IMP allows you to configure multiple sources for mail - local, POP, and IMAP, any combination, users can select the source. I _think_ users can even add a new source server if you permit it, or you can lock the users to one source, but have multiple sources for different users. I'm pretty sure Squirrelmail is single-source.
