You could use that solution but it would probably be better if you added 
the changes to a file in /etc/env.d . On most Linux systems, an 
environment is set up by combining all of the files in that directory in 
numerical order. On Gentoo, you run env-update after you make changes 
there to update the profile.env script which is sourced by /etc/profile 
on login.
