If you've got something that works, your comfortable with, and understand...
You don't need to justify anything. Who needs a reason "not to switch"...
the onus is on him to justify a "need to switch".

This is just a suggestion, but have him setup 2 identical boxes and mail
server configurations: qmail vs. sendmail. Then have him create some "real
world" benchmarks that justify the need to switch. Publish your results on
respective sendmail and qmail mailing lists. Get tuning advice, lather,
rinse, and repeat.

Let him convince you of the need to switch...
