If it didn't auto detect it, you're not going to be able to do anything in the 
BIOS either.  Probably bad timing or something, non-parity vs. parity.

You could try flashing the BIOS to the latest you can get from Gateway, as 
it's possible it just can't recognise more than 8M (though I doubt it).
