Getting cable

Ahhh....beloved Comcast in Independence. All you're going to get out of
them these days is 1.5 Mbps down and 128K up. There used to be a time (when
they were @Home) when I got 3 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. I wish I could get
my company's cable service in Independence!

I must say, I was impressed with my Comcast install last year. I'm in a 45
year old home with somewhat new coax wiring. They went around to each
outlet and put on new fitings and tested the signal with their handheld
meters.

As far as splitting is concerned, you shouldn't be too worried. You lose 1
dBmv of signal per 150 feet of coax. You're also going to lose signal at
your splitter anyhow. So unless there is a _very_ long run between the
splitter and the cable modem you should be alright.
