Regarding the PHPNuke install error:

  >index.php: parse error, expecting `'('' on line 15
  >require_once("mainfile.php");
  >Any ideas?

Make sure your database is installed correctly.
You may have to install it manually. Thereafter,
your mainfile.php should load fine.

There exists some documentation in your phpnuke files on
how to install your nuke_DB manually. What DB are you
using? MySQL?
