Building a i686 kernel rpm

I am building a kernel rpm with a small patch, Which I plan to deploy via
kickstart to about 200 redhat workstations. So I downloaded SRPM  made my
changes to the source and I issue the rpm -ba kernel -2.4.spec command
(I've also tried rpm -ba --target i686 kernel -2.4.spec ) ,  the whole
process works but all I get is kernel-2.4.18-4.i386.rpm and I need
kernel-2.4.18-4.i686.rpm.
