My annoyances:

1. The time on my machine seems to change itself as though I told the system
that my machine clock is set to GMT. All is well for a long time and then
out of the blue my machine is 5 hours behind. I just reset it two days ago
so I will see how it goes this time. I've checked every setting I can and
all appears well. For some reason, this last time my /etc/adjtime was off
and the last line wasn't set to LOCAL
2. I tried to change my printing system from CUPS to LRP, don't ask why I was
just tinkering around. I did this through the Mandrake Control-Center.
After applying the changes I was repeatedly asked for CD 1 from my download
edition. I finally clicked on cancel and the printing was changed and seemed
to work well. After printing a couple of document fine my printouts changed
to complete garbage.
3. I have used the Control-Center to change several things and every once in a
while all of the options disappear. I have the window and pull down menus
but all icons are gone. I restart the Control-Center and everything is fine.
4. I've recomiled the kernel several times for kicks. I followed the
directions on Mandrakeuser.org and all seemed to work well. Seems is the key
word. After recompiling and then rebooting into my new kernel my ppp daemon
dies randomly. Sometimes I'm on line for 15 seconds some times 15 minutes
but it will always die on me. I boot back into the shiped kernel and
everything works fine. I figured I was fubaring something but one kernel
recompile didn't change anything and the daemon still dies.

On the plus side I installed KDE 3.0 without a hitch and the fact that
Mandrake is compiled for a 586 makes a huge difference on my old K6-2 266 at
home. I installed RedHat 7.3 for about 2 days and went back to Mandrake
because of the speed difference.

This leads me to the chicken and egg story. Do I shell out the $60 a year to
help fund development or do I wait to do that until they release something
without so many quirks?
