splash screen mandrake 8.2

Greetings,
I tried to download and do that splash screen effect
that was discussed
in some earleir posts.  I receive this error when I
try to 
/sbin/lilo/ -v,  unkown variable  "5q" at or above
line 2 in file
/etc/lilo.conf.

I tried installing some patches for redhat 7.2 onto
this
machine and had no luck, the packages installed expect
for a lilo pkg
but there was just no change in anything.

Im still able to boot up just fine, but no splash
screen.
I didnt understand to well what I was reading on the
site I got the splash screen from

Any assistance would be grateful.
