Audiogalaxy Replacement

What I'll probably use this on most often is FreeBSD 4.5 (Stable), which 
offers Linux compatibility (at least, I checked the little box on the 
install, it loads that into the kernel on every boot, and I haven't had 
any problems running things said to be made for Linux, yet).  I'm not sure 
exactly how that works... MacOS X would probably offer something similar, 
though, wouldn't it?  
[More a question of curiousity than any real need to know on my part =)]
