Program Director
Position Description

Position Objective:  
To coordinate the development and mobilization of Youth Volunteers in Greater Kansas City to help 
youth learn about and serve the community.

Position Responsibilities:

1.	Develop an organizational plan for YVC with measurable goals and objectives.

2.	Organize an Advisory Council to assist with the development of program policy and 
fundraising.  

3.	Develop a program budget and work with appropriate individuals to raise funds necessary to 
sustain the program.

4.	Work in collaboration with other community organizations and institutions as a community 
liaison representing YVC.

5.	Recruit, select, train and supervise year-round AmeriCorps*VISTA members and summer Team 
Leaders to supervise Youth Volunteers.

6.	Recruit, select, assign and train youth for service projects and related leadership 	
roles.

7.	Prepare guidelines, distribute, review and select service project proposals from non-profit 
agencies.

8.	Integrate education and leadership components into program design, including the 
development of a service leaning component and Youth Advisory Council.

9.	Arrange for necessary resources to allow youth to participate in the program, i.e., 
transportation, lunch, etc.

10.	Plan volunteer recognition events and promote the program and its sponsor within the 
community.

11.	Distribute, collect and compile evaluation forms and information to assist with program 
evaluation for local program grants and YVCA needs.

12.	Be active in YVCA network activities including attending national conferences, 
participating in conference, and sharing work with other program directors and sites.

Start Date:				Immediate Opening

Position Objective:
	To coordinate the development and mobilization of team-based Youth Volunteers aged 11 to 18 
in Greater Kansas City.  To support the mission of YVC-- to create and increase volunteer 
opportunities to enrich Kansas City's youth, address community needs and develop a lifetime 
commitment to service.

Responsibilities:
	Implement, facilitate and coordinate all functions related to the Youth Volunteer Corps 
program, a year-round program that involves youth as members of volunteer teams in service to the 
community.

	Work with representatives from a consortium of community agencies and institutions, 
represent the program to youth, agencies, media, funders and other local constituents to build a 
sustainable program with broad-based community support.

	Develop an organizational plan, organize an Advisory Council, develop and manage the 
program budget, fundraise, conduct program evaluation, develop and oversee service projects, 
recruit, train and supervise college-age Team Leaders and Youth Volunteers.  

Minimum Position Requirements:

·	Bachelors degree in Human Services, Education or related field; or equivalent in successful 
field experience;
·	Two years experience, with at least one in program development and management - experience 
working with youth preferred;
·	Volunteer and/or service experience;
·	Demonstrated, effective oral and written communication skills, organizational abilities and 
supervisory skills;
·	Demonstrated ability to work independently and with others.
