Lost Modules

What steps did you take to compile the kernel?
  You must do these steps:
    cd to directory with source code tree (say for example
/usr/src/linux-2.4.14)
    make config [or menuconfig or xconfig]
    make bzImage
    make modules
    make modules_install
   
Did you compile anything as a module, or did you compile everything into
the kernel?
  If you compiled everything into the kernel there are no modules.

Where did you look for modules?
  They should be in /lib/modules/linux-2.4.14 for a Linux version of
2.4.14

Did you compile the kernel with module capability?
