I've been using this piece:
http://www.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=20&grid=5
for a couple of years with EXCELLENT results.
The web interface is very easy to use and gives you the flexiblilty to route
specific ports to specific boxes on the internal side as well as the
ablility to leave one box completely exposed. YOU choose what should be
open. Excellent performance and amazing uptime. It is by far the best value
in the "internet appliance" world. Have your "techie" friend read the specs
on it. What kind of router does HE have?

Subject: Linksys Firewall/router

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with Linksys
firewall/routers. I've have Comcast cable internet and have been using this
firewall with great success for some time now. I got in a debate with a
tech about the reliability of these firewalls. He didn't believe that these
firewalls were any good because they didn't block enough ports. I've done
port scans before on these firewalls and nothing is left open that isn't
supposed to be. Yet he insists that they aren't any good and has little
explanation about why. Does anyone have any experience with hardware
firewalls? Are these Linysys devices any good and if not what is a good
alternative?

Thanks,
  David
