Guess they should have defined 'doomed'.  :-)

On the one hand, new mainframe shipments are probably really anemic on a
volume basis, and there's probably a vanishingly small number of people in the
world who actually have mastery of this platform.

On the other hand, I think I've heard that plenty of money is still being
spent on them, and, as you say, they're probably not going to disappear
anytime soon.  (Maybe.  ;-)
