Windows And Linux

Hello Everyone,

I have a question or confusion:

I would like to know if is possible to have a netework running a RedHat server and have Linux and 
Windows clients? Now, I believe it is possible but, does the RedHat server needs to be running 
Samba for this or not? Are there other alternatives or a different network implementation that will 
work/run with two or three different Operating Systems?

This is only for practice purpose. I would like to test if I can create such network.
