Right now there's a new posting on www.slashdot.org about using the Starband service with OSes other than Windows. You still need a Windows box to initialize or setup the interface unit, but the walkthrough looked pretty simple. For those of you that live out of city limits or out of range of cable and DSL, this is your Rosetta Stone.
