What is a kernel?

I think that in a case like this, we should point him in the right
direction but not give him the exact text to use in his homework
answer. It is always frustrating when I am learning something new to
look for information but not know where to start. Yes search engines
help, but a lot of times, they can cause more confusion than I started
with. It is nice to be able to go somewhere to ask people for good
resources. It is the "go find it yourself, kid" attitude that some
linux users have (nobody here that I have really seen...yet :)) that
turns people off to using linux.

If someone truly wants knowledge, they will appreciate being pointed in
the right direction. If they just want a quick answer to satisfy a
homework assignment, they won't appreciate anything less than an answer
that they can use verbatim.
