Gnu Privacy Guard and kmail

I have been playing around with gpg and am trying to get it to work in kmail,
but  something really irritating is going on because it does not work! All the
kde help says is "Put the user id in this field", and the gpg site says
absolutley nada on the subject. 

Has anyone been able to do this and get it to work?
