I found a very nice site which might make it a little easier to show 
people Linux without all that messy fdisk and lots of configuration:

In a nutshell, they have an ISO image you can download and burn to a 
cd, which is a full love Linux install, X (the SVGA server, 
apparently, is the default) and all the trimmings (the KDE desktop, 
GIMP, Netscape, Corel Word perfect, et. al) setup and ready to boot 
from. It's also technically feasable to bring your CD with you and 
work in your favorite OS even on systems that don't have Linux 
installed :) Sweet.
