From: hlu@yoda.wsu.edu (H.J. Lu) Subject: Anyone wants a bootable rootdisk? Date: 23 Sep 1992 11:24:01 GMT
I just made a bootable rootdisk for 1.44MB floppy
drive, i.e., bootimage and rootimage are on the
same disk and bootimage is on root filesystem.
You can use it to install Linux without ever
touching anything else, like MS-DOS. The kernel
is 0.97 pl 6 with Ted's one line fix for serial.c.
Those binaries are linked with jump table 4.1. It
is quite easy to modify this bootable rootdisk to
install the filesystems on HD and transfer
kernel to HD. It can be used for disaster recovery.
BTW, this disk is for sys adms only :-).
I used LILO 0.5 by Werner Almesberger. It is very
easy to use. I just spent 10 mins to make Linux
boot from my HD. Another ten mins got Linux boot
from floppy. I removed "Insert root disk
and press ENTER" from the kernel.
If anyone is interested, please drop me a note.
