Here's a dumb question. I got a DVD burner (LiteOn IDE burner), so I removed my CDburner and put in the DVD burner in it's stead (/dev/hdc). Winder's is fine with it, but Linux is giving me fits. There are only two physical drives; hda (the disk) and hdc (the DVD burner). Running Mandrake 9.1, and while I can use it to read CD's (/mnt/cdrom), no burning is happening. Tried cdrecord - scanbus and get; [root@pc-00109 root]# cdrecord -scanbus Cdrecord 2.0 (i586-mandrake-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2002 Jörg Schilling cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/pg*'. Cannot open SCSI driver. cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are root. cdrecord: For possible transport specifiers try 'cdrecord dev=help'. Of course, I have no /dev/pg*. I unpulgged the drive and powered up, let the "hardware detection" tell me it was gone, then powered off and plugged it back in, and let "hardware detection" tell me it was added, but no change in scanbus results. Next step suggestion? Chris.
